It was so beautiful to see the respect from our students and their participation through being still and quiet at all the right moments. They were a credit to themselves, their families and of course to St James school. Being part of this service helped our students to know a little bit about feeling empathy for others and to respect the people who have given their lives for our country.
There was lots of excitement in the Junior Learning Hub this week as the children prepared for the walk to Nar Nar Goon. What better way to consolidate their letter writing skills than to write a letter to… SANTA and send these in the post on our excursion!! The children made sure they included important features of a letter as well as a greeting to Santa and thanked him for their presents from last year. They now wait patiently wait for their reply.
To further prepare for the excursion, the Foundation and Year One children have also explored what it means to be a safe pedestrian and what road rules and signs we need to follow. They looked at Google Maps and Google Earth to see the directions and the birds eye view of the area. The children then used their skills to design a map showing the directions from St James to the township of Nar Nar Goon. They included many of the places that help us in the community such as the kinder, train station, post office and op shop.
