After applying for the past few years, St James was finally selected to participate in the Diary Victoria Picasso Cow Program. The students worked through a curriculum themed Discovering Diary and learned all about how cows make milk, how the milk is collected and tested at the dairy then taken for processing and bottling.
The Junior Learning Hub followed the Discovering Dairy program and enjoyed the experience which included making butter and ice cream.
One of the most exciting parts of the program was painting the cow. All students at St James designed their version of the cow which included going outside and drawing the beautiful countryside surrounding St James.
Our final design was a merging of several student’s designs and it reflects the beautiful and healthy Gippsland countryside. One of the special things about the painting of our cow was every student in the school had a go of painting a part of it. It was a fantastic experience for ten students from Foundation and Year One who presented our cow 'Nar Nar Moo' to the panel from Dairy Victoria. 'Nar Nar Moo' will be placed in a permanent position under our lovey oak tree in the drive way of St James.
